ATTICA GROUP TURNOVER RISES BY 33% IN FIRST HALF 2003 AND EARNINGS BEFORE INTEREST, TAX AND DEPRECIATION (EBITDA) TO EURO 29.7 MLN AGAINST EURO 12.1 MLN IN FIRST HALF 2002

Consolidated results for the first half 2003, show sales of Euro 166.2 mln, an increase of 33% over sales of Euro 124.8 mln during the same period of last year. Earnings before Interest, Tax and Depreciation (EBITDA) stand at Euro 29.7 mln versus Euro 12.1 mln in the first half of 2002. Net financial results for the Group for the first half 2003 show a loss of Euro 4.3 mln against profit of Euro 2.5 mln in the fist half 2002, which included extraordinary profits derived from the sale of Superfast III and Superfast IV.

Attica Enterprises Group is active on the Greece-Italy routes in the Adriatic Sea, between Germany and Finland in the Baltic Sea, in the new route between Scotland and Belgium in the North Sea and in the Greek domestic routes.

During the first half of 2003, Attica’s Superfast ferries in the Greece – Italy routes ranked first in the transportation of passengers, private vehicles and freight units with a market share of 38%, 30% and 33% respectively.

On the Germany-Finland route, Superfast VII and Superfast VIII for the first half 2003, achieved very satisfying returns and attained high levels of capacity utilization in the transportation of freight units whilst the summer period witnessed a considerable increase in passengers and private vehicle traffic against the same period last year.

On the direct service between Scotland and Belgium, Superfast IX and Superfast X, show a steady increase in freight unit volumes carried and high levels of capacity utilization in passenger traffic.

In the first half 2003, the Blue Star Ferries fleet of Strintzis Group carried 1,523,620 passengers an increase of 54.8% compared to first half 2002, 213,207 private vehicles and motorcycles an increase of 47.7% versus the same period in the previous year and 60,419 freight units, a decrease of 11.6%. With the deployment of Blue Star 1 and Blue Star 2 on the Dodecanese and Chania routes respectively, Strintzis Lines Shipping S.A. has considerably strengthened its presence in the Greek domestic market with its fleet of fast vessels offering quality services throughout the year.
